Job Description
Optimus is seeking a Technical Project Manager to coordinate Engineering projects from concept through production release, as well as Vector System implementations and SMARTFuel installations from contract close through in-service, serving as the strategic organizer who ensures deadlines and commitments are met. This role pairs rigorous planning and schedule management with exceptional people skills. As a small team, our people wear many hats and are often pulled across competing priorities, so the Technical Project Manager must keep everyone moving toward a shared goal when things get busy or unpredictable. The Technical Project Manager will build on a solid foundation of tools, templates, and workflows, refining that system as our products and team evolve.
This is a full-time salaried position ($118,275-$127,500/year) with benefits. As the hub between Engineering and the rest of the company, the Technical Project Manager works closely with our customer-facing teams, who own the customer relationship, to turn customer and product requirements into clear, executable plans. Success requires reading the room, navigating competing interests, and having professionally candid conversations with colleagues at every level, along with sound judgment when situations fall outside established processes. The position is predominantly in office, with 10%-20% travel to support installations and field activities.
Optimus is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. People of color, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, veterans and members of other historically disenfranchised groups are strongly encouraged to apply; If you are unsure about being qualified for this position after reading the responsibilities and requirements, please apply anyway! We are most excited to work with individuals who learn quickly and have a passion for clean energy solutions.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders to execute project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables that align with organizational goals, keeping a small, multi-hat team focused on what matters most
- Manage engineering projects and deliverables, including design milestones, drawings and documentation, bills of materials, and engineering change orders, ensuring they are complete, approved, and on schedule
Keep projects moving through shifting priorities and incomplete information, identifying obstacles early, proposing solutions, and escalating thoughtfully when needed
Build and maintain critical-path project schedules (e.g., Gantt charts), collaborating proactively to identify and mitigate risks and internal bottlenecks
Work hand-in-hand with the Engineering, Production, and Field Service teams to translate customer commitments into Engineering deliverables, build plans, production sequencing, and installation schedules that meet agreed-upon in-service dates
Serve as the internal point of contact for project status, giving Sales and other customer-facing teams accurate timelines, progress updates, and risk information to share with customers
Ensure builds and installations meet internal and external quality standards, and coordinate final acceptance and handoff to ongoing support
Provide timely updates to leadership on project status, risks, and pending issues
Maintain project documentation and turn lessons learned from active implementations into repeatable processes that help teammates do their best work and prevent future issues

Experience growing and adapting project management processes or systems in a small or rapidly growing organization, with a practical, right-sized approach
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of influencing without direct authority and keeping multi-hat teams aligned across competing priorities
